Our History

THP Law formerly Eric Thorniley & Co was founded in 1939 in Stockport and has since played an important role in supporting the local community with their legal needs.

John Howe joined Eric Thorniley & Co in 1980 and as part of a rebrand in 2008 the firm became THP Law. In 2021 John Howe retired passing the firm to fellow Director Mark and his wife Victoria, who is also a solicitor at the firm.

Managing Director and owner Mark Whittell started his career at Cobbett Leak Almond and was as a Commercial Litigation and Risk Partner at Cobbetts LLP in Manchester. Fellow Director John Louden began his legal career at George Davies in Manchester, now Mills & Reeve.

THP Law remains one of the leading Stockport law firms and underwent a full rebrand in 2022 to THP Law to reflect its continuing vision to push for legal excellence with family friendly values in the North West of England.
